The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, September 4, by its Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
According to Adeh, the two babies, a boy and a girl, were abandoned in separate incidents on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
She said the first incident occurred at about 5:30pm around Obodo Street in Kurudu, where a resident identified as Mr Innocent reportedly heard the cry of a baby.
Upon checking the area, Innocent discovered a baby boy wrapped in a cloth and placed inside a carton box.
Police officers from the Kurudu Division, alongside personnel from the Juveniles and Women Care (JWC) Department, were immediately deployed to the scene and rescued the child.
The baby was taken to a nearby hospital for medical assessment and was reported to be in stable condition.
Following the necessary documentation, the child was handed over to the Social Welfare Department for further care.
In a separate incident later that day, at about 9:40pm, another resident of Gwagwalada, identified as Mr Ibrahim, reportedly heard a baby crying outside his gate.
Ibrahim, with the assistance of other concerned residents, rescued the baby girl and reported the matter at the Gwagwalada Police Station at about 10:15pm.
The child was subsequently taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital by personnel of the JWC Department for medical examination and care, pending her handover to the Social Welfare Development authorities.
The police said investigations were ongoing into both incidents to establish the circumstances surrounding the abandonment and identify the babies’ mothers and other family members.
The FCT Police Command appealed to members of the public with information that could assist in identifying the mothers or relatives of either child to contact the nearest police station.
