Obi made the remarks in a statement shared on social media on Wednesday, noting that world leaders had gathered in New York for the annual UN General Assembly.
He drew attention to the presence of Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama at the gathering, where he delivered an address, and questioned why the Nigerian President was not attending the global event.
Obi described Mahama’s speech as “remarkable” and said it had attracted commendation from the international community.
Against this backdrop, Obi asked why the President of Africa’s most populous country was absent from the UNGA, claiming that Tinubu had failed to attend the global gathering for three consecutive years.
“Where is Nigeria’s President?” Obi asked.
He argued that Nigeria’s President ought to be representing the country and providing leadership for Africa on the international stage, particularly at a time when the nation is facing significant domestic and international challenges.
Obi acknowledged that Vice President Kashim Shettima was present at the UNGA but said Tinubu’s absence continued to raise questions.
“Although our Vice President, Kashim Shettima, was present, the question remains: Where is the President?” he said.
The former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians to continue praying for Tinubu’s return and for his leadership in addressing the challenges confronting the country.
“Let us continue to pray for his return and for his leadership in addressing the many challenges confronting the nation,” Obi added.
