Wike made the allegation on Wednesday during his monthly media briefing with journalists, while discussing the prolonged closure of courts in Rivers State during Amaechi’s tenure as governor between 2007 and 2015.
The FCT Minister also criticised the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for inviting Amaechi to speak at its recently concluded annual conference in Port Harcourt.
Wike argued that legal institutions should be cautious about providing platforms to public figures whose past actions, according to him, undermined the judiciary.
“Rotimi Amaechi, who wants to be vice president today, once shut down the court in Rivers State and made a pregnant woman to give birth in the prison,” Wike alleged.
He maintained that actions by political office holders that undermine judicial institutions should remain subject to public accountability.
Wike said public officials should not be allowed to use positions of authority to undermine the judiciary and later receive platforms from legal bodies without scrutiny.
“If, as I’m sitting today as minister of the FCT, who is seen as governor of the FCT, and I call for courts to shut down, I should not be given a platform to defend that,” he said.
The allegation comes amid renewed political exchanges between Wike and Amaechi, who served as Rivers State governor from 2007 to 2015 before becoming Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
