The command’s Public Relations Officer, Odukoya Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
According to the statement, correctional officers intercepted Balikis at about 3:50pm on Saturday while she was allegedly attempting to conceal the substance inside a bottled-water pack purportedly intended for an inmate.
The substance was identified as ethanol and had allegedly been disguised as drinking water.
The officers’ intervention prevented the substance from being taken into the custodial facility and reaching inmates.
Balikis was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation, with appropriate legal proceedings expected to follow.
The Controller of Corrections, Ogun State Command, Abioye Kamoru Adesina, reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy towards smuggling and other activities capable of compromising the security and integrity of custodial facilities.
He said the incident underscored the service’s commitment to maintaining safety, discipline and order within the correctional system.
