Woman Arrested Over Alleged Killing Of Husband Planning To Marry Second Wife In Kano.

 

A woman identified as Bilkisu Sani has been arrested in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State over the alleged killing of her husband, Hafisu Gausu, amid a dispute over his reported plan to marry a second wife.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 7pm on Friday, September 18, 2026, in the Katsalle area of Rogo town.

A resident, Auwal Kazagi Rogo, who spoke to Daily Trust, said residents rushed to the scene after hearing cries from Bilkisu, who allegedly claimed that her husband had been kidnapped and slaughtered.

Kazagi said residents later discovered that Gausu had not been slaughtered but had sustained a serious head injury.

“On reaching there, we saw that he was not slaughtered but hit on the head with an object. He fell and died. There was even a sign of bite on his ear,” he said.

The police were reportedly alerted and subsequently evacuated the body for investigation.

According to residents, Gausu had recently become engaged to another woman and was allegedly planning to marry her as his second wife.

The decision reportedly led to repeated disagreements between the couple, with Bilkisu allegedly insisting that she would prevent the marriage.

Community elders were said to have intervened in an attempt to resolve the dispute, but tensions reportedly continued.

Police subsequently arrested Bilkisu as the prime suspect while investigations into the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death continued.

Gausu was buried on Saturday morning in Rogo in accordance with Islamic rites.

The couple had reportedly been married for nearly seven years and had two children, while Bilkisu is said to be pregnant with the deceased’s child.

Sources in the area also alleged that Gausu had asked his fiancée’s family to bring forward the proposed wedding date by two months because of the resistance from his wife.

The allegations against Bilkisu remain unproven, and the circumstances surrounding Gausu’s death are still being investigated.
