Yilwatda Takes Break After First Year As APC National Chairman.

 

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside of the country following an exceptionally demanding and eventful first year of his tenure as leader of the ruling party.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the APC said the vacation offers the National Chairman a well-deserved period of rest after months of intense engagements, consultations, and strategic activities aimed at repositioning and strengthening the party.

Since assuming office, Professor Yilwatda has has worked with the National Working Committee (NWC), governors, National Assembly members, state party structures, and stakeholders to build a more cohesive and electorally competitive APC. Under his leadership, the party successfully held its National Convention, strengthened its internal structures, and conducted primary elections at various levels ahead of the 2027 general elections — achievements the statement said have further consolidated the APC's position as Nigeria's leading political party.

The statement described the vacation as a brief step back rather than a disengagement from party affairs, noting that Yilwatda would use the period to rest, retool, and sharpen his strategic thinking ahead of 2027.

He is also expected to reflect on the next phase of the party's development and finalise plans for the forthcoming NWC Retreat, which will review the party's progress, identify challenges, and shape strategy for the months ahead.

The APC stressed that Yilwatda's absence would not affect party operations, as the NWC continues to function in line with the party's constitution.

The National Chairman is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the two-week break to resume his duties.
