Security agencies are in receipt of credible intelligence regarding plans by suspected armed militias, allegedly mobilized from Benue and Nasarawa States, to attack Eha-Amufu community in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the planned attack may not be
unconnected with the disappearance of the son of one Alhaji Magari, who was
last seen grazing his cattle around the forest axis of Eha-Amufu.
Magari, suspecting that his son may have been killed and buried by
members of the community, allegedly mobilized militias to carry out a reprisal
attack on the community. He further alleged incessant and unprovoked killing of
cattle and herders by members of the community.
Sequel to the development and envisaging a breakdown of law and order,
security agencies have established parley between Alhaji Magari and the
leadership of Eha-Amufu community to avert any act inimical to peace and
security. This is in addition to intensified efforts to ascertain the
whereabouts of the missing herder, as well as to ensure the arrest and
prosecution of those found complicit in his disappearance.
Meanwhile, security agencies have assured residents that the situation
is being professionally managed and that all necessary measures have been
emplaced to prevent any breach of peace. Residents are enjoined to remain calm,
law-abiding, be circumspect about movement into the forest areas for now, and
to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest security formation to
allow for seamless security operations and to avert any unforeseen
confrontation.
