Anthony Joshua has reshaped his coaching team ahead of his highly anticipated December 12 bout against Tyson Fury in Cardiff, bringing back trainer Ben Davison and adding Peter Fury, the former trainer and uncle of his opponent.
Joshua recently worked with Iegor Golub during his latest victories but has now reunited with Davison, who previously worked in his corner for three fights between 2023 and 2024.
The most notable addition to Joshua’s camp, however, is Peter Fury, who guided Tyson Fury to his famous 2015 victory over Wladimir Klitschko before the pair later fell out.
Joshua confirmed the arrangement while speaking to the media ahead of Wednesday’s kick-off press conference in London.
“I speak to Peter Fury. He’s willing to help me as well. Yeah, I’ll speak to him. [Peter] has given me some good ideas about our training and our approach, how I can approach this fight and where I can improve,” Joshua said.
“What I’ve got to do is take control of my fight with [Tyson] Fury, but also add their touch. And with these two powerhouses coming together, I think it will be a match made in heaven. I do believe that.”
The rivalry between the two heavyweights also featured prominently at the London press conference, with both fighters recalling their infamous sparring sessions from 2011.
Tyson Fury recalled an incident involving a Rolex watch, saying: “There was a thing about a Rolex watch, as well. If anyone could drop me, I’d give them a Rolex watch, which he said in the past — and guess what? I left that building with a f***ing Rolex on.”
Joshua responded: “He left the ring with his Rolex watch, but he also left the ring with a black eye as well.”
Despite the verbal exchanges, the two fighters displayed mutual respect during the event.
Fury acknowledged Joshua’s achievements throughout his career while predicting a decisive victory when they meet at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on December 12.
