BBNaija Star Mike Edwards Seeks Igbo Name After DNA Ancestry Discovery.

Former Big Brother Naija housemate Mike Edwards has expressed surprise after an ancestry DNA test indicated that he has 48 per cent Igbo and 30 per cent Yoruba ancestry.

The reality TV star shared the results on Instagram, explaining that he had always identified as half Nigerian and half Jamaican because his mother has Yoruba roots through his Nigerian grandmother, while his father was born in Jamaica.

However, the AncestryDNA test indicated that Nigerian ancestry accounted for 78 per cent of his genetic background.

“I've ALWAYS known about my mum's Yoruba heritage, but NEVER imagined my dad's Jamaican roots could have such a strong connection to Igboland, Nigeria!” he wrote.

Mike said one of the most meaningful moments was sharing the discovery with his father, who had always felt a strong connection to Africa.

He explained that the results meant more to him than percentages or ethnic identities, describing the experience as an opportunity to reconnect with his family’s history.

Despite the discovery, the former housemate maintained that he remained a proud Yoruba man, while joking that his Igbo ancestors had been waiting to be acknowledged.

“NOW ABEG, MY IGBO BROTHERS AND SISTERS... I NEED AN IGBO NAME!! What name are we giving me, and what does it mean? IGBO KWENU!!!” he added.

The revelation has prompted a playful appeal to his Igbo fans and followers to suggest a name that reflects his newly discovered ancestral connection.
