Benue Woman Arrested After Child Dies Following Alleged Severe Beating.

The police have arrested a woman in Benue State over the alleged death of her brother’s child following severe corporal punishment.

The incident reportedly occurred on October 5, 2026, in Jato-Aka, Kwande Local Government Area of the state.

According to an account shared on Facebook by John Tyokoso, the woman allegedly accused her brother’s children of stealing ₦500 before subjecting them to severe punishment.

Tyokoso alleged that the female child was restrained and beaten repeatedly, while other forms of physical punishment were inflicted on her. The child reportedly died from the injuries sustained during the incident.

He further claimed that the woman moved the child’s body into a room and locked the door after realising that she had died.

According to the account, neighbours who became aware of the incident confronted the woman, but she allegedly denied assaulting the children and claimed that a rope found at the scene belonged to a goat.

The neighbours reportedly forced the door open and discovered the girl’s body inside the room.

Tyokoso also alleged that the children’s male sibling survived the incident but sustained a fractured hand.

He claimed that the children’s grandmother was present but did not prevent the alleged assault.

The incident was reportedly brought to the attention of the Nigeria Police Force, Jato-Aka, and the woman was arrested.

Police authorities in Benue State had yet to publicly provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the incident at the time of reporting.

An investigation is expected to establish the circumstances that led to the child’s death and determine whether any other persons were involved.

The allegations against the suspect remain unproven until determined by a court of law.
