The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon, October 11, 2026, as the students were returning from a visit to the Shehu of Bama, His Royal Highness Dr Umar Kyari Umar El-Kanemi.
The Vice-Chancellor of Al-Ansar University, Professor Fanna Inna Abdulrahman, expressed profound sadness over the deaths and extended the institution’s condolences to the families of the deceased.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 12, the vice-chancellor also prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the bereaved families the strength and patience to cope with the loss.
“The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fanna Inna Abdulrahman, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff and Students of Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, expresses profound sadness over the tragic death of two of the University's 400-level students, Ahmad Abdul Karim Maaji and Habib Bakura Alkali Habib, who lost their lives in a car accident along the Maiduguri–Bama Road,” the statement read.
The university described the deaths as a significant loss to the families, friends, classmates and the entire university community.
It extended its condolences to the bereaved families and all those affected by the tragedy.
“We pray that Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgives their shortcomings, accepts their good deeds, grants them Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives their families, friends and colleagues the strength and patience to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement added.
The university also prayed for comfort for the bereaved families and eternal peace for the deceased students.
“Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we will return,” the statement quoted from Qur’an 2:156.
