BREAKING: Former Delta Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan Is Dead.

Former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan has died at the age of 71 following a brief illness, his family has announced.

Uduaghan reportedly died on Monday, October 19, 2026, according to a statement signed by Toju Uduaghan on behalf of the family.

The family described the late former governor as a beloved father, brother, uncle and patriarch whose contributions to Delta State and Nigeria would remain part of his legacy.

His death, the statement noted, had left the family devastated, while acknowledging his influence on their lives and the many people he encountered during his years of public service.

“His passing is a profound loss to our family, the people of Delta State, and Nigeria at large. We are grateful to Almighty God for his life, his service, and the legacy he leaves behind,” the family said.

The family also extended its condolences to relatives, friends, associates, former colleagues and others mourning his death, while praying for the repose of his soul and comfort for those affected by the loss.

Born on October 22, 1954, Uduaghan served in several key positions in the Delta State government before emerging as governor in 2007.

He was the state’s Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 before serving as Secretary to the State Government between 2003 and 2007.

He subsequently became governor in 2007 and remained in office until 2015, completing two terms.

During his administration, his government pursued programmes focused on human development and infrastructure, alongside other initiatives aimed at advancing the state.

Uduaghan’s death marks the loss of a former state chief executive whose career spanned healthcare administration, government service and executive leadership.

“Your memory will forever remain in our hearts, and your legacy will endure in the lives of those you touched,” the family added in its tribute.
