Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Elma Aveiro, has criticised Portugal following her brother’s departure from the national team’s training camp.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Elma expressed her dissatisfaction with the treatment of the Al Nassr forward, arguing that Ronaldo had not received the level of respect she believed he deserved.
“CR7 deserved more respect. The national team deserved more structure,” she wrote.
She also criticised Portuguese media coverage of the situation, calling for less speculation and greater professionalism in reporting.
“Portuguese journalism deserved more competence and less speculation,” Elma said.
Turning her criticism towards the Portuguese public, she added: “As for the Portuguese people, well… they don’t deserve to have the best at anything. We are envious, disdainful, and ignorant.”
Ronaldo’s departure from the Portugal camp followed a reported disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus after the veteran forward was left on the bench during Sunday’s UEFA Nations League victory over Norway.
The Al Nassr captain subsequently travelled to Madrid and is set to miss Portugal’s upcoming fixtures.
Elma’s comments have added to the reaction surrounding Ronaldo’s latest involvement with the national team as questions continue over his role under Jesus.
