Enugu Police Probe Alleged Shooting Outside NDC Secretariat, One Injured.

The Enugu State Police Command has ordered an investigation into an alleged shooting by unidentified armed men outside the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) secretariat in Enugu, which left one person injured and damaged five vehicles.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 2.30pm on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the victim was repairing a vehicle parked along the road when he sustained a suspected gunshot injury.

Ndukwe said police operatives responded promptly after receiving a distress report, moved to the scene and restored normalcy.

He added that the injured man was taken to hospital, where he was receiving treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The command said the windscreens of five parked vehicles were also damaged during the incident.

In a separate incident on Saturday, joint police and military operatives dispersed suspected NDC members who had gathered in a disorderly manner at the entrance to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

According to Ndukwe, the incident occurred at about 11.30am when party members reportedly sought to enter the airport in large numbers to receive their governorship candidate.

He said preliminary findings indicated that airport authorities had restricted the number of people allowed into the facility, leading to a misunderstanding among the party members.

The disagreement reportedly escalated into a fight, prompting the intervention of the joint security team, which dispersed the crowd.

The police said investigations into the alleged shooting were ongoing and urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
