The Federal Government has confirmed a case of Ebola disease in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, after a woman who recently returned to Nigeria from Uganda tested positive for the infection.
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, disclosed the development in a statement issued on October 20, confirming that health authorities had commenced contact tracing to prevent further transmission.
According to the minister, the woman arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda and was subsequently admitted to a private hospital in the FCT, where she received treatment for several days before the diagnosis was confirmed.

The minister disclosed that the patient had been placed in isolation and was receiving medical care.
Health officials have so far identified 44 close contacts of the confirmed case as part of efforts to monitor possible exposure and contain the spread of the disease.
The government is expected to continue surveillance and other public health measures as investigations into the case progress.
Ebola is a serious infectious disease that can cause severe illness and spreads through direct contact with the blood or other bodily fluids of an infected person, as well as contaminated materials.
The development underscores the importance of early detection, prompt isolation and effective contact tracing in preventing the further spread of infectious diseases.
Members of the public are advised to follow official guidance from health authorities and seek medical attention if they develop symptoms or believe they may have been exposed to the virus.
