Nollywood filmmaker Biodun Stephen has criticised security escorts who use sirens in heavy traffic to force other road users to make way for their principals.
Stephen expressed her frustration over the practice, questioning where motorists stuck in traffic were expected to move to when escort vehicles approached with blaring sirens.
The filmmaker said she could not understand the behaviour of escorts and described some of them as “daft” and “stupid”.
“I will never understand escorts. I feel as though those who are escorts are daft. They are stupid,” she said.
Stephen questioned the logic behind demanding that motorists move aside when everyone was already caught in the same traffic.
“Can you hear their sirens? We’re all in traffic o. Whether they want me to move to the bush or to jump into water because your oga wants to pass, I don’t know,” she added.
Her comments highlight the frustration often expressed by motorists over the use of sirens by official or private security convoys on congested roads.
Stephen’s remarks have since drawn attention to the conduct of escorts and the pressure placed on other road users when convoys attempt to clear their way through heavy traffic.
