The Bida Local Government Council in Niger State has shut down some ice cream production facilities over alleged poor hygiene and failure to comply with regulatory requirements.
The council said the action followed an inspection that uncovered several violations, including the presence of flies in ice cream mixtures, unlabelled products and the absence of operating licences and registration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
According to the council, laboratory tests reportedly showed that the products lacked nutritional value and contained substances considered harmful to human health.
Following the findings, the council said it had suspended production at the affected facilities and warned that businesses found violating food safety regulations would face appropriate sanctions.
It also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious food production activities to the relevant authorities to help protect public health.
