The Youth Wing of the Labour Party has begun discussions on a possible political alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and groups supporting President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The proposal followed a virtual meeting held on Friday, October 2, 2026, involving the Labour Party National Youth Leader, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, members of the National Youth Leadership, National Zonal Youth Leaders and State Youth Leaders.
The meeting focused on the political direction of the party's youth wing amid the prolonged crisis within the Labour Party and concerns about the future of young people in Nigerian politics.
According to a statement signed by the Edo State Youth Leader, Comrade Ken Omusi, participants raised concerns over the treatment of the youth constituency during and after the 2023 presidential election.
The youth leaders said they felt there had been limited recognition, engagement and support for young members who participated in the 2023 election campaign.
They also discussed the need for a political platform that would provide more opportunities for young Nigerians to participate in leadership, develop political careers and contribute to decision-making at the national level.
The meeting also reviewed various policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration, including economic reforms, youth empowerment, human capital development, infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, agriculture and workers' welfare.
The participants considered the possible impact of the administration's policies on the country's development and the position young Nigerians could take ahead of the 2027 elections.
Following the discussions, the youth leaders asked Ahanotu to begin consultations with relevant stakeholders in the APC, Renewed Hope Movement, City Boy Movement and Tinubu Support Groups.
The consultations are expected to examine the possibility of collaboration and political alignment with the groups ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Labour Party youth leaders also gave Ahanotu the responsibility of coordinating the consultations and reporting back to the wider youth leadership.
They agreed that further discussions would be necessary before any final position is reached, with the process expected to involve consultations among youth leaders across the country.
The group also proposed a physical meeting of Labour Party youth leaders in Abuja at a date to be agreed upon. The meeting would review the outcome of the consultations and determine the next steps on the proposed political realignment.
The development comes as political activities and discussions over possible alliances continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement was signed by Omusi on behalf of those who attended the meeting, including Ahanotu, five National Zonal Youth Leaders and 32 State Youth Leaders of the Labour Party.
