The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed a helicopter crash in the Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, and reportedly caused panic among residents of the coastal community.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed the crash, saying details of the incident were still emerging.
Abayomi said the command was working to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash and urged residents of Igbokoda and neighbouring communities to remain calm.
“The details surrounding the incident are still emerging, as efforts to establish the full circumstances continue,” he said.
He also appealed to members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information, assuring that the police would provide updates as soon as credible information became available.
Earlier, a community leader who spoke on condition of anonymity also confirmed the incident but said the exact location of the crash and other details were not immediately known.
“Yes, it is true. A helicopter crashed at Igbokoda, Ondo State, but we don’t know the exact place and other details,” the source said.
As of press time, the identity of the aircraft, the number of people on board and the cause of the crash remained unknown.
There was also no official confirmation of any casualties.
