Music Producer Arrested Over Alleged Intentional HIV Exposure.

A New Orleans music producer has been arrested on a charge of intentional exposure to HIV after allegedly infecting a bounce artist whose music he had produced.

Mykel “MykelOnTheBeat” Cook, 33, was booked into the Orleans Justice Centre on 18 September, according to court records cited by NOLA.com.

Cook was initially held without bond pending a Gwen’s Law hearing. Magistrate Commissioner Joyce Sallah later set his bond at $250,000 and issued a domestic protective order for the alleged victim.

Cook has since been released on bond. Court records also show that he has domestic violence convictions dating back to 2021 and 2023 in St Charles and Jefferson parishes respectively.

The alleged victim, 38-year-old Jayvonda Bazile, who performs under the name BOG Vonnie, asked NOLA.com to identify her publicly.

Bazile said she decided to speak out to encourage people in the music community to take HIV testing seriously, adding that she believes other people may have been exposed.

According to the arrest affidavit, Cook allegedly met Bazile in 2018 and agreed to help her pursue a music career before eventually becoming her music producer.

Their professional relationship later became personal, Bazile said.

“We became friends, and we weren’t in a relationship, but we were casually hooking up, or hanging out, doing music. Doing work to get us in a better spot in life,” she told NOLA.com.

Cook has produced music for artists including Boosie BadAzz, Chance the Rapper and NBA YoungBoy.

The allegations against Cook remain subject to the legal process.
