Osun APC Says It Was Not Informed Before Tinubu Campaign Committee’s Inauguration.

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it was not briefed ahead of Thursday's inauguration of the state Presidential Campaign Committee for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid in the 16 January 2027 election, which is to be coordinated by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

In a statement signed by the state APC Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the party said it regarded Tinubu's re-election as a collective task it had been working vigorously to achieve, but insisted that such an exercise, involving the re-election of a national president, should be properly scheduled and handled with the highest official protocol.

The chapter said it had no knowledge of the inauguration beyond a list of names posted on social media the previous afternoon by Governor Adeleke's spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, describing the development as a surprise to the leaders, members, and supporters of the party. It noted that not all social media information should be taken as genuine, and that less than 12 hours' notice was too short, shutting out many people who would otherwise have attended.

The party said naming the committee members less than 24 hours before the event, without any prior meeting with the state party leadership, appeared designed to stoke an avoidable misunderstanding between the party and the appointed state coordinator of the campaign — a situation it said it would try to avoid.

It maintained that it was not opposed to conceding roles in support of Tinubu's re-election but stressed that due process should be followed to achieve the desired results.

The chapter also acknowledged that Governor Adeleke's appointment as state coordinator of the campaign committee would boost the chances of the APC's presidential candidate through the joint efforts of the political parties involved.
