President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap.
The extension means Nwakuche will remain in office until 26 May 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will end on 30 June 2028.
The approval was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the extension followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address a succession gap in both services and allow their boards sufficient time to appoint successors.
‘President Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership and charged them to consolidate these gains’, the statement said.
Onanuga said Preaident Tinubu nominated Nwakuche as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, and the Senate confirmed his appointment in March 2025.
Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on 21 February 2024 and confirmed by the Senate on 1 March 2024.
