Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has intensified his support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, declaring that securing the President’s second term remains his primary political focus.
Wike made the remarks on Monday while addressing town hall meetings with the Rumueme and Apara kingdoms in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He also criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, describing it as a “joint ticket of corruption”.
Wike said the opposition alliance lacked the strength to win the 2027 election and would struggle to secure the constitutionally required 25 per cent of votes in Rivers State.
The FCT minister also criticised Atiku over recent comments urging Nigerians to accept money offered to them by members of the ruling party during the election.
“When I saw Atiku on television yesterday, asking Nigerians to take any money given to them by people from the party in power, that it will be stolen money, I said haa, Atiku is now an apostle of anti-corruption?” Wike said.
He added: “The same Atiku that his boss described as corrupt and that one of his major regrets is making him his Vice President is talking.”
Wike further declared that his political activities were currently centred on securing Tinubu’s re-election, citing federal appointments and development projects in Rivers State as reasons why he believes the President deserves strong support in the state.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he said.
The minister expressed confidence that Tinubu’s 2027 campaign would be easier than the 2023 presidential election, arguing that the current administration had made significant interventions in Rivers State.
Wike also dismissed the chances of other opposition figures, including Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi, in the forthcoming presidential election.
His comments come amid continued political realignments and disagreements among opposition and ruling-party figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
