An Army major and several soldiers have reportedly been killed after suspected Boko Haram terrorists ambushed a military convoy near Kanamma village in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The attack occurred at about 4pm on Monday, 19 October 2026, according to local sources.
Sources said an explosion struck the convoy’s lead vehicle before the assailants opened fire on other vehicles, triggering a gun battle between the troops and the attackers.
The major and three other soldiers were reportedly killed during the initial attack, while additional casualties were recorded during the ensuing exchange of gunfire.
The exact number of soldiers killed in the incident had not been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.
The ambush comes amid persistent security threats along the Geidam–Kanamma and Mayamti routes, which local sources said had remained closed for months because of the security situation.
The latest incident underscores the continuing challenges facing security forces operating in parts of Yobe State, particularly along routes vulnerable to attacks by insurgents.
There was no official statement from the military confirming the casualties or providing further details of the attack at the time of filing this report.
