Zuru Emirate Dissolves Executives, Appoints New Leaders.

The Board of Trustees of the Zuru Emirate Development Society has dissolved the organisation’s National Executive Committee headed by retired Air Vice Marshal Bala Salau.

The decision was reached during a meeting of the Board of Trustees chaired by the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami, Sami Gomo III, at his palace on Monday.

A statement signed by Abdullahi Idris Zuru and released on Wednesday said the dissolution took effect immediately.

According to the statement, the Board took the decision because it was dissatisfied with the performance of the dissolved leadership in areas including peace, unity, development and security within the Zuru Emirate.

The Board also alleged that the executives, who assumed office in 2022, had not made enough contributions to key areas such as education, infrastructure and socio-economic development.

It further accused the leadership of being disconnected from residents and community leaders, claiming that several members were based outside the emirate in cities including Abuja, Kaduna, Lagos and Kano.

The statement said the lack of regular engagement with people in the emirate had affected consultations needed to address pressing development and security concerns.

The Board said stronger cooperation between ZEDS, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders was necessary to support efforts aimed at improving infrastructure and security across the emirate.

Following the dissolution, the Board appointed Alhaji Yusuf Wade as the new National President of ZEDS.

Wade and his team were given the responsibility of repositioning the organisation and making it more active in development efforts across the emirate.

The new leadership is expected to work on infrastructure projects, encourage regular monthly contributions from Zuru indigenes living across the country and develop partnerships with mining companies through Corporate Social Responsibility agreements.

The Board also said the organisation would maintain a non-partisan approach and work with people from different ethnic and religious communities in the emirate.

Wade is a former education administrator who retired as a director in the Ministry of Education. He also previously served as secretary to a committee made up of 16 professors and chaired by former Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, on improving education.

The meeting was attended by several prominent members of the Zuru Emirate, including Major-General (Senator) Muhammad Magoro, Galadiman Zuru; Lieutenant General Ishaya Bamaiyi, Uban Yakin Zuru; and Justice Danlami Zama Senchi, Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal.

Members of the Zuru Emirate Council, representatives of the five chiefdoms, local government chairmen and district heads were also present at the meeting.
