Former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili has endorsed the candidacy of her sister and former colleague, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the job at the World Trade Organization, WTO as Director General.
Dr. Ezekwesili’s endorsement is coming as Okonjo-Iweala’s name and that of a South Korean, Yoo Myung-hee emerged top two contenders for the position.
In her twit on the 8th of October, 2020, obviously very elated Oby Ezekwesili wrote: “Incredible development that two exceptional women emerged tops for the WTO-DG post. Any of both can lead WTO strictly on MERIT at this stage, however, on the basis of Principle of Global Inclusion, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala (Africa) should be asked to meritoriously lead the Trade body now”. End of Quote.
This is therefore what all women across Africa and the world at large should learn from the example Dr. Oby Ezekwesili has just set for them which is, standing up and holding the flag for their fellow women when it matters most, and not join forces to pull themselves down.
