Heavily armed bandits attacked a mosque in the Yandoto community, located in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, early Friday morning, killing at least five worshippers and abducting several others.
As reported by Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on counter-insurgency, the assailants opened fire during prayer, immediately killing five individuals before seizing an undetermined number of worshippers and taking them into the nearby forest.
The killings caused widespread panic throughout the community, with residents later assembling to conduct funeral prayers for the deceased.
“We pray Allah to forgive their shortcomings, accept them as martyrs, and bring an end to this bloodshed in our land,” a community elder was quoted as saying.
This incident occurred less than a week after armed men kidnapped 40 worshippers during early morning prayers at a mosque in Gidan Turbe village, also within Tsafe LGA. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers encircled the mosque at approximately 5:30 a.m., coercing the worshippers out at gunpoint before marching them into the forest near the Gohori axis.
At the time this report was filed, neither the local government authorities nor security agencies had issued any statement regarding the latest attack.
