The Imo State Police Command has announced that it will commence full enforcement of the ban on the unauthorised use of tinted windows by motorists in the state, starting from Saturday, October 4, 2025.
The announcement was made by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, through an official statement released on Saturday.
According to Okoye, vehicle owners whose cars are equipped with factory-installed tinted or lightly shaded windscreens are "strongly advised to visit the approved police portal at https://possap.gov.ng/ to apply for the mandatory permit before the expiration of the grace period on October 3, 2025."
The Command also reiterated that the prohibition on the use of tinted windscreens by commercial vehicles, especially those operated by Bus Imo, remains in effect.
“This measure, taken in the interest of public safety, became necessary as such vehicles have been frequently linked to violent crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and 'one chance' incidents in the state,” the statement said.
It warned that vehicles belonging to offenders will be impounded and the owners will "be dealt with in accordance with the law."
The Command appealed to all motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to cooperate with law enforcement officers during the implementation of the directive.
The statement further clarified that permits will "only be issued for vehicles with factory-fitted windscreens or those with light shading supported by a medical report or recommendation from an approved government hospital," and that this will be done "in strict compliance with security directives."
“The Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of the state,” the statement added.
