The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the immediate past Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has stated that if Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and his supporters decide to defect to the party, they would be received as madmen who returned to their vomit.
Ganduje also criticised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing their style of politics as lacking consistency and their method of governance as “directionless”.
As reported by BBC Hausa and monitored in Kaduna on Saturday, Ganduje made the remarks during a meeting of APC stakeholders held in Kano on Thursday.
This was the first gathering of its kind since he left office.
Ganduje dismissed rumours that Kwankwaso might rejoin the APC.
According to Ganduje, Kwankwaso lacks the consistency required to return to the ruling party after previously mocking it.
“We too have heard these rumours, but we don’t take them seriously. In a democracy, there’s little difference between a fake cleric and a thief. Kwankwaso once said only a madman would join APC.
“He even mocked President Tinubu when he was contesting, claiming that Tinubu only developed Lagos. Now they want to return. If they come, we’ll welcome them as ‘madmen who swallowed their vomit,’” Ganduje said.
Addressing the possibility of making peace with both Kwankwaso and former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, Ganduje noted that reconciliation was not impossible, highlighting that all three had governance experience that could help guide the current government if unity became necessary.
Turning his attention to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Ganduje described his administration as a “government of vendetta and cluelessness,” accusing it of squandering resources and lacking administrative capacity.
“When I took over power, I never wasted time probing my predecessor. Governance doesn’t end with one administration. But Abba Yusuf started his government with probes. Tell me, what have they uncovered?
“They’ve received more money in six months than my administration saw in eight years. Yet what have they achieved?” Ganduje asked.
He went on to say, “This government has no grip on governance. It’s like comparing a messenger with a permanent secretary. Theirs is a government of bandits, clumsy and confused. They spend recklessly on projects without value for money.”
Speaking on his removal as the APC National Chairman, Ganduje said it was purely a result of zoning and the rotation of political positions.
“The President did not wrong me. Leadership is by God’s will; He gives it to whom He wants at any time,” he said.
Ganduje also dismissed suggestions that the APC was weakening, asserting that despite some defections, the ruling party continues to be the largest political platform in Nigeria.
As of the time of reporting, neither Kwankwaso nor Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had responded to Ganduje’s comments.
