MAHDI SHEHU: Nigeria Cannot Condemn Exam Malpractice While Leaders Defend Forged Certificates.

Mahdi Shehu.

Activist and public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu has responded to a video showing individuals being apprehended for taking professional examinations on behalf of others, stating that Nigeria lacks the ethical standing to denounce such behaviour. At the same time, its political leaders defend falsified and forged academic credentials.

In a post shared on X along with the video on Tuesday, Shehu ridiculed what he termed the system’s hypocrisy.

He argued that impersonation during exams merely reflects the deeper corruption within Nigeria’s political and societal institutions.

“This media trial is self-indicting in a country like Nigeria,” Shehu wrote.

He noted that certain politicians have submitted fake results and forged certificates, which were later validated by the courts, and have even made fraudulent academic claims with certificates from non-existent institutions.

According to him, the celebration of leaders with questionable academic records has become both a national disgrace and a global source of shame.

“One cannot aspire to feel the freshness and sweetness of a fried fish whose head was rotten while in the water,” he stated.

He emphasised that the actions of the suspects in the video reflect the kind of society Nigerians have collectively created.

Using sarcasm, Shehu further commented that those apprehended for involvement in the examination malpractice scandal should be conferred with the national honour of GCON “for a job well done.”
