The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has introduced a new initiative known as Pension Revolution 2.0, designed to enhance the pay and dignity of retirees and extend pension benefits to all Nigerians, including those in the informal sector.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday by PenCom’s Director General, Ms Omolola Oloworaran.
She explained that the new programme aims to promote dignity for pensioners through access to health insurance and a guaranteed minimum pension. It also seeks to improve investment outcomes while ensuring the security of contributors’ funds to generate sustainable long-term returns.
“‘Pension Revolution 2.0’ is the most significant advancement since 2004, bold in ambition, yet evolutionary in practice. It ushers in a new era of dignity for retirees, inclusion for every Nigerian worker, and resilience for our national economy,” she stated.
This development follows PenCom’s recent release of the Revised Guidelines on Appointment to Board and Senior Management, as well as updated regulations on Corporate Governance.
