On Monday morning, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) blocked access to the premises of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The NMDPRA PENGASSAN Chairman, Comrade Tony Iziogba, who explained the reason for the industrial action to the media via telephone, said it was in response to the “anti-labour manners” of Dangote Refinery. He stated that the refinery dismissed over 800 employees for joining a union.
Likewise, the spokesperson of NUPRC, Mr Eniola Akinkuotu, confirmed that the association had prevented staff from entering the office.
“They didn’t allow us to enter today,” he said.
Additionally, the disruption of gas supply appeared to have affected electricity distribution to the 11 distribution companies.
As of 9:00 a.m., the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) had dispatched only 2,698MW to the 11 electricity distribution companies.
Likewise, only 14 out of the 26 electricity Generation Companies (GenCos) were operational during the period under review.
The 14 GenCos generated a total of 3,092.41MW.
The price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) remained unchanged at the time this report was filed.
