As schools across Lagos State resume, Proudtobeme, a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering youths and women, has taken stock of its holiday activities, reflecting on the wins and successes. The group organised a Summer Boot Camp, which was executed as various legs of three-day programmes where primary school pupils and secondary school students benefitted from valuable life skills.

Held in mid-August 2025, children and youths between the ages of 8 and 20 were exposed to the rudiments of web design, coding, baking, and so on. Pupils and students from various secondary schools in Lagos State and neighbouring states participated in the summer programmes.

Pastor (Mrs.) Iwalola Owolabi, Proudtobeme’s CEO, said the primary goal was to equip participants with valuable skills. “The children were able to learn new things and made meaningful impact within the period,” she said. Looking back now, as schools resume for pupils and students to go back to academic studies, Owolabi revealed that Proudtobeme is pleased to say that the aim of the summer programme was achieved as any useful knowledge by children go a long way to aiding their growth and development.

Commenting on the experience, Ifolo Agali, a student of Christ College, Ogun State, who participated in the programme, said a lot of new things were learnt. “From HTML to CSS and other tech stuff, I learnt a bunch of things I never knew about; I also learnt something about baking,” he said.

As the group continues to commit to empowering youths and women with the skills and knowledge, they need to successfully navigate life, Owolabi said Proubtobeme will always strive to make positive impact in the society.
