The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, has officially opened the free Seraphic Psychiatric Hospital and Old People’s Home located in Aguleri, within Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.
The Governor commissioned the four-hundred-bed facility, which was established by the Spiritual Director of Zion Prayer Outreach, Evangelist Ebuka Obi.
During the event held on Friday, Governor Soludo praised Evangelist Obi for having the foresight and determination to build such a facility, stating that the project strongly aligns with his personal values and the objectives of his administration.
“Thank you because what you have done is to live out the true essence of Christianity,” the Governor noted.
The Governor emphasised that Evangelist Obi is creating a new standard, while regretting that, unfortunately, some individuals in ministry have turned the platform into a means of self-enrichment.
“Evang. Obi is sending a message to all Christians and asking a question: Who are you able to lift up? Now is the time to give.”
Governor Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s willingness to collaborate with the hospital and pledged regular monthly support to motivate further efforts.
“This is what government should be doing, but we cannot do it alone. In response to your plea, we will provide you with a transformer for electrification, and we will also construct the access road into this facility.”
In his remarks, Evangelist Ebuka Obi clarified that the event was not a political gathering, adding that he had visited the Governor at the Light House.
“I can’t come to Anambra without calling on the Governor, and I went to the Light House, Awka. I have never seen a project like that – in fact, it is a mini-city. I’m impressed, may God bless you.”
He disclosed that the psychiatric hospital would become fully operational by next month, stating that establishing such a centre had been a dream since his childhood. He also revealed plans to replicate similar facilities in other states across the country.
In a brief welcome address, the Chairman of Seraphic Homes Foundation, Mr Isiugwu Christopher, appealed to Governor Soludo to assist the facility with electricity supply and vehicles.
