Tinubu Summons Ibas, Ex-Rivers Administrator To Aso Rock.

Tinubu.

President Bola Tinubu has invited the immediate past Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), to the Presidential Villa.

Ibas, who arrived at the Villa at approximately 5:50 pm dressed in brown native attire, was accompanied by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayede.

Earlier, Edun had entered the Villa alone but promptly left, only to return shortly after holding a file, indicating the gravity of the meeting.

Ibas held the position of sole administrator of the oil-rich state for six months. His tenure ended on 17 September, following the conclusion of the six-month emergency rule, after the President ordered the suspended state governor, Sir Sim Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state House of Assembly to resume their duties as of the preceding Thursday.

The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, during its first sitting following the end of the emergency rule, declared its intention to examine the state’s financial activities during those six months.

According to the resolutions passed by the House, it intends “to explore the process of knowing what transpired during the emergency rule concerning spending from the consolidated revenue fund for the award of contracts and other expenditure.”

Ibas has opposed the decision to audit the state’s financial transactions during his time in office.

Reports indicate that Rivers State received no less than N254.37 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee between March and August 2025, under the administration of the former sole administrator.
