Wike Approves Requests Of Striking Resident Doctors In FCT.

Wike.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the demands made by resident doctors in the territory, who have been on strike since 15 September over unpaid entitlements.

Wike made the announcement on Friday during the official commencement of the construction of the Northern Parkway, which will connect Ring Road II to Ring Road III along Shehu Yar’Adua Way in Life Camp, Abuja.

He praised the doctors for putting an end to their strike in consideration of patients and the broader FCT population.

“I must commend the resident doctors for calling off the strike. The administration is happy with their understanding. I have signed all the doctors’ requests on my table today,” the minister said.

Wike also instructed the Acting Head of Service for the FCT and his Senior Special Assistant on Administration, Samuel Atang, to begin the immediate implementation of the approvals.

Speaking on the Northern Parkway project, the minister noted that the development would generate employment, reduce traffic congestion within the city, and enhance economic activity.

The resident doctors had commenced their strike on Monday following several months of unsuccessful negotiations with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Their list of demands included the payment of outstanding salaries ranging from one to six months for doctors employed since 2023, recruitment of new personnel, disbursement of the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund, and payment of arrears resulting from the 25/35 per cent upward adjustment of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).

They also called for definite timelines to complete delayed skipping and conversion processes, rectification of irregular salary payments, an end to erroneous deductions, disbursement of outstanding wage awards, payment of 13 months’ worth of hazard allowance arrears, and settlement of arrears owed to external residents for the year 2025.
