2027: Ohanaeze Says It Will No Longer Support Ineffective Politicians.

Ndi-Igbo.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo has declared its intention to take a stronger political position ahead of the 2027 general elections, vowing that it will only back politicians who have truly improved the lives of their people.

The Cross River State President of the group, Chief Chukwuemeka Egwuonwu, made this known during a reception held in his honour on Sunday in Calabar.

Egwuonwu stated that the period of political neutrality had ended, stressing that the organisation would now judge political leaders based on their achievements and credibility.

“Every human being is a political animal, and Ohanaeze will not be different. Any person that has performed will have our blessings, but if we discover that someone has gone there to manipulate the masses and cause hardship, we will make a statement,” he said.

He commended Governor Bassey Otu for running an administration that is inclusive and beneficial to both indigenes and non-indigenes, describing his leadership style as just and people-oriented.

In his remarks, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Senator John Mbata, urged the new Cross River leadership to promote unity and maintain the group’s core values of dignity, purpose, and cultural preservation.

Mbata noted that the national leadership of Ohanaeze was repositioning the organisation to serve as a strong global voice and unifying force for the Igbo people both in Nigeria and abroad.

Governor Otu, who attended the event, praised the Igbo community for their major contributions to business and development in Cross River State and assured them of continuous cooperation with his government.

Egwuonwu, who took over from the former executive, promised to foster unity among members and further extend Ohanaeze’s presence across the state.
