No fewer than 650 members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Thursday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gobirawa Ward of Dala Local Government Area, as well as in parts of Fagge and Ungoggo Local Government Areas of Kano State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the defectors, who arrived in groups under different leadership structures, were welcomed by the Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Rabiu Bichi.
Bichi expressed his delight in receiving the new members, attributing their defection to President Bola Tinubu’s leadership qualities and the APC’s dedication to fairness, inclusiveness, and the delivery of democratic benefits.
He outlined the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which include the students’ loan scheme, agricultural reforms, and empowerment initiatives for youths and women.
The managing director further disclosed that his agency was working in partnership with the Bank of Agriculture to provide farmers with soft loans aimed at enhancing food security.
Bichi assured the new members that they would enjoy the same rights and privileges as existing APC members, reiterating the party’s pledge to fairness and national development.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alhaji Ahmad Gobirawa stated that their decision to join the APC was influenced by the visible progress achieved under President Tinubu’s administration in less than two years.
The defectors expressed confidence that their switch to the APC would help strengthen the party’s presence and influence both within Kano and beyond.
The ceremony, which brought together party stalwarts, community figures, and youth groups, was described as a major political achievement for the APC in Kano, especially considering its ongoing grassroots mobilisation campaigns across the state.
The defection was regarded as a significant victory for the APC, demonstrating the party’s effective grassroots mobilisation drive throughout the state.v
