"Godswill Akpabio Is Deceiving You" - Things Not Okay At Home, Mahdi Shehu Tells Nigerians Abroad.

Public affairs analyst Mahdi Shehu has warned Nigerians residing overseas not to believe a recent statement made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio about the country’s current state, describing it as deceptive and inaccurate.

In a post shared on his official X account on Wednesday, Shehu accused Akpabio of deceiving Nigerians in the diaspora by portraying an unrealistic picture of progress and stability.

He advised them to disregard Akpabio’s remarks and not to be misled by what he referred to as political propaganda.

“139 million Nigerians are facing visible hunger, 60 million jobless and unemployed youth, and over 30 million children are suffering from severe malnutrition,” Shehu wrote.

“Nigeria’s debt stock is now at N170 trillion and still counting. Come back home at your own risk.”

Citing several Bible passages, Shehu linked his message to moral and spiritual warnings against dishonest leadership.

He mentioned Psalm 10:7, which says, ‘His mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue,’ and Ephesians 5:6, which cautions, ‘Let no one deceive you with empty words.’

According to him, Nigerian leaders have made deceit a consistent feature of governance, engaging in falsehoods while the majority of citizens continue to endure poverty, joblessness, and poor leadership.

“Our leaders have made lying a trade and deception a permanent culture,” he said.

He emphasised that Nigerians abroad should not be swayed by political statements that do not represent the true situation in the country.
