The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State has announced a reduction in nomination form fees for women and physically challenged individuals intending to participate in the local government elections scheduled for December 13.
Alhaji Bello Ayuba, the APC State Chairman, disclosed this during a press conference held on Friday in Maiduguri.
Ayuba revealed that the party had set the councillorship nomination forms for women and physically challenged aspirants at N250,000 and chairmanship forms at N1 million, reflecting a 50 per cent reduction from the standard fees.
The chairman stated that the standard fees remained N500,000 for councillorship and N2 million for chairmanship positions.
According to him, the fee adjustment followed consultations with other party leaders in Katsina and Lagos states.
He explained that the decision aimed to promote inclusivity and ensure that women and persons with disabilities had equal opportunities to participate in the forthcoming elections.
Ayuba further reaffirmed the party’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent primaries, where all aspirants would be given equal chances to compete.
“Whosoever is willing to contest for chairmanship or councillorship, as long as they are members of the party, the door is open to all,” Ayuba said.
He added that the APC had completed the stage of the nomination process and would soon begin screening aspirants for the 27 local government chairmanship positions and 320 ward councillorship seats.
“Even in cases where there is only one aspirant in a local government or ward, affirmation exercises will be conducted to ensure acceptance by party structures.
“Following screening and affirmation, the party will forward the list of approved candidates to the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BORSEC) to enable them to secure forms and prepare for the main elections.
“Larger committees will also be constituted at various levels across all Local Government Areas to ensure transparency and adherence to party guidelines,” he said.
Ayuba urged party members to maintain peace throughout the electoral process, reiterating that the APC remained committed to upholding democratic values and ensuring credible elections across the state.
