Reps.

A bill proposing the creation of a new state in the South-West geopolitical zone passed its second reading during Thursday’s plenary session in the House of Representatives.

The bill, sponsored by the lawmaker representing Ijebu Ode/Ijebu Northeast/Odogbolu Federal Constituency of Ogun State, Olufemi Ogunbanwo, alongside three other legislators, successfully passed the second reading during the session.

The proposed legislation seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution to establish Ijebu State from the present Ogun State.

This development adds to the increasing number of proposed bills aimed at creating new states across the country.

The Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the plenary, referred the bill to the Committee on Constitutional Review for further consideration.
