Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has given approval for the appointment of Dr Suraj Sulaiman as the new Statistician-General and Director-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics.
The appointment was announced in a statement signed on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, and takes effect immediately.
This appointment comes after the conclusion of the tenure of the previous Statistician-General, Associate Professor Aliyu Isa Aliyu, who was recently promoted to the role of Commissioner for Livestock Development.
Bature mentioned that Governor Yusuf has instructed that the official handover and takeover should be conducted between Monday and Friday of this week.
The statement reads, “The appointment, which takes immediate effect, follows the completion of the tenure of the former Statistician-General Associate Professor Aliyu Isa Aliyu, who was elevated to the position of Commissioner for Livestock Development.”
Dr Sulaiman is a scholar and mathematician with considerable expertise in research, teaching, and statistical analysis.
He obtained his PhD in Mathematics from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (2015–2018), where he completed a doctoral dissertation titled “New Method of Computing the Projective Polynomial Resultant Based on Dixon, Jouanolou and Jacobian Matrices.”
He also earned a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Yasar University in Turkey (2012–2014) and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil (2006–2010).
His academic journey began at the College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies, Kano, where he received a Diploma in Mathematics Education between 2004 and 2006.
In a congratulatory message marking Sulaiman’s appointment as Director-General of the Kano Bureau of Statistics, Governor Yusuf extended his best wishes and stated his belief that Sulaiman’s academic and professional expertise would transform the Bureau for enhanced service delivery.
The governor reiterated his government’s dedication to promoting data-informed governance, stressing that dependable statistics are essential for effective planning, transparency, and sustainable growth in Kano State.
