The Kebbi State Police Command on Monday firmly denied claims made by the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kebbi Branch, who alleged that nine local government areas in the state were ungovernable.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the Command labelled the allegation as false, misleading, and highly irresponsible, stressing that no area within Kebbi State is inaccessible or outside the control of law enforcement agencies or judicial institutions.
Providing clarification on recent reports concerning the abduction of a legal practitioner, Barrister Isiaku Danjuma, the Police clarified that the incident took place in Ibeto, Niger State, which is outside Kebbi’s territorial jurisdiction.
According to the statement, Danjuma, who resided in Kebbi but originated from Niger State, had travelled to Abuja and was abducted in Ibeto upon his return from an event in the Federal Capital Territory.
While expressing concern regarding the kidnapping, the Command criticised what it referred to as the NBA’s “blanket and far-reaching statements”, cautioning that such declarations might incite undue fear, encourage criminal elements, and undermine the ongoing security measures.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, affirmed that Kebbi remains peaceful and secure for all law-abiding residents.
He appealed to the public to disregard inaccurate reports and to continue with their regular activities without apprehension, while also urging citizens to supply actionable intelligence that can support the Police in combating crime.
“The Command remains fully committed to protecting lives and property, maintaining public peace, and ensuring that criminals wherever they operate are apprehended and brought to justice,” the statement added.
The Police further advocated for positive collaboration and open dialogue with professional organisations, traditional authorities, and key stakeholders to enhance the collective efforts to combat criminality throughout the state.
The Command also made an appeal to those holding Barrister Isiaku Danjuma, urging them to release him immediately, without any conditions, and to ensure he is returned unharmed.
