President Bola Tinubu has announced significant changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security framework.
Under the latest appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede succeeds General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff.
Major-General W. Shaibu has been named the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke has been appointed as the Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas has taken over as the Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, will remain in his current role.
The President expressed appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” and urged the new officers to “justify the confidence reposed in them” and maintain the professionalism, vigilance, and unity that characterise the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
All appointments take immediate effect.
