Security expert Salihu Dantata has backed President Bola Tinubu over his recent shake-up of the Service Chiefs.
In an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Dantata explained that as Commander-in-Chief, President Tinubu has the constitutional right to dismiss any of the Service Chiefs whenever he deems it necessary.
He made this statement while reacting to the President’s decision to restructure the leadership of the Armed Forces on Friday.
The President had approved the changes as part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen the nation’s security system.
Responding to the development, Dantata said, “In the first place, no one expected it. It came as a surprise.
“Then, going beyond that, Mr President Tinubu is the Commander-in-Chief and, at any time, he has the constitutional right to relieve any Service Chiefs of their duties.
“World over, this is the practice. Once you appoint Service Chiefs, particularly when you are facing insecurity, if you are not getting the results they were appointed for, you relieve them and put new ones in.”
