TRAFFIC ALERT: Lagos To Close Marine Bridge For 15 Days For Repairs.

Lagos Road.

The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of the Marine Bridge in Ijora, Apapa Local Government Area, to allow urgent repair works to be carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the bridge would be closed for 15 days, starting from Saturday, October 11, and would reopen on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

Osiyemi explained that the maintenance work would be executed in two phases to reduce traffic disruption and ensure smooth vehicle movement throughout the period.

According to him, Phase I would take place between October 11 and 18, affecting the stretch from the foot of the Marine Bridge at Lawani Oguntayo Road (by UBA, inbound Apapa/Costain).

During this period, motorists from Ijora Olopa heading towards Apapa would be diverted through the Ijora Causeway Access Ramp by Omni Retail Company, linking Ijora 7up, and then turning left to Lilypond Access Ramp to continue their journey.

Phase II, scheduled for October 19 to 25, would cover the section between Ijora Badia and Lilypond Access Ramp (inbound Apapa).

For this phase, drivers from Ijora Olopa heading to Apapa and Costain will be diverted approximately 50 metres before the construction area into a contraflow lane for Costain-bound traffic for roughly 500 metres before rejoining the main road.

Similarly, vehicles travelling from Apapa towards Costain, Lagos Island, or Ijora Olopa would continue to move freely. Still, they would temporarily share a contraflow segment of about 500 metres around the work zone.

Osiyemi appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officers, stressing that the closure was necessary to replace the bridge’s bearings, which are vital to its structural strength and safety.

He assured that enough traffic officials would be deployed along the diversion routes to control movement and ease congestion.

“The temporary closure is essential for the long-term safety and durability of the Marine Bridge. This project reflects the ongoing collaboration between the Lagos State and Federal Governments to enhance infrastructure and ensure safer roads for all,” Osiyemi stated.
