Citizens for Secure Nation (CSN), a civil society organisation, has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of exploiting the recent attacks on schools in Kebbi and Niger states for political purposes.
After the federal government shut down 44 unity colleges due to the increase in school kidnappings, the ADC criticised the move. However, CSN president Musa Maikawa, speaking from Kaduna, said the party was manipulating national security concerns to stir public emotions rather than offer practical solutions.
Maikawa claimed the ADC’s statements were intended to erode public trust in ongoing security operations. “We cannot allow any political group to use the suffering of grieving families for political gain,” he stated.
He added that the party’s unfounded accusations could damage confidence in security agencies tackling the violence. “Accusing security forces of colluding with terrorists is baseless and dangerous; it breeds distrust when public support is crucial,” the statement noted.
Maikawa explained that the temporary school closure was a security precaution to protect students. He urged political leaders to show caution and responsibility in their comments on national security, stressing that defeating violent groups requires solidarity and trustworthy communication.
