The Taraba State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to hold a crucial meeting tomorrow with major stakeholders to deliberate on and set a date for officially welcoming Governor Agbu Kefas into the party.
The APC state chairman, Ibrahim El-Sudi, made this known at the weekend while speaking to journalists in Jalingo, the state capital.
He described the governor’s expected defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as “a divine breakthrough” that would finally bring to reality the APC’s 13-year desire to take control of the Taraba Government House.
“We have been yearning for this for 13 years. God has finally given us the Taraba Government House without going to the polls,” El-Sudi said.
El-Sudi further explained that preparations were ongoing for a grand event in Jalingo to officially welcome Governor Kefas into the APC fold.
According to him, the reception ceremony would be attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), and other prominent party figures from across the Northeast region.
He disclosed that Governor Kefas had already met with top APC leaders in Abuja before finalising his decision to defect.
“He has met those who matter – from the President to the national chairman. He was advised to engage with the APC structure in Taraba, and we are ready to welcome him,” El-Sudi said.
The APC chairman expressed confidence that the governor’s planned defection would promote stronger collaboration between the Taraba State government and the Federal Government, leading to more rapid growth and development in the state.
He assured long-serving members of the party that they would not be overlooked, stressing that the APC remains committed to internal democracy and equal opportunity for all.
“As a democratic party, our doors are open. Anyone who wishes to contest for the governorship under the APC platform is free to do so,” El-Sudi added.
