Atiku Officially Joins ADC Ahead Of 2027 Elections.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially become a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the coalition-backed party he is expected to work with as political activities build up towards the 2027 elections.

Atiku made the announcement on Monday via his X handle, where he shared a photo of himself holding his ADC membership card with the short caption, “It’s official.”

His defection follows his July exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party that had been battling prolonged internal crises.

Atiku resigned from the PDP just two weeks after opposition figures adopted and unveiled the ADC as their new political platform ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

Why Atiku Left PDP

After his media aide, Paul Ibe, confirmed his resignation from the PDP, Atiku clarified his decision in a letter dated July 16.

In the letter addressed to the Chairman of PDP Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State, he cited irreconcilable differences and a deviation of the party from its founding ideals.

“I am writing to formally resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” he wrote.

He expressed goodwill to the PDP leadership and appreciated the support he received during his time in the party.

“I wish the Party and its leadership all the best in the future. Thank you once again for the opportunities and support,” he concluded.
