Benue Assembly Suspends Two Members.

Assembly.

The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended former Majority Leader, Hon. Saater Tiseer, and former Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Michael Audu, due to allegations of gross misconduct that could undermine the unity and integrity of the House.

The resolution was passed during plenary on Friday, overseen by Speaker Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga.

The two former principal officers were accused of exploiting their positions for personal benefit, breaching the House’s Standing Orders.

The motion was presented by the current Majority Leader, Hon. Thomas Dugeri, who stated that the actions of the ex-leaders had damaged the reputation of the House.

He added that an ad-hoc committee tasked with investigating their conduct found them guilty of abusing their offices in ways inconsistent with their oaths and membership duties.

Following the committee’s report, the House suspended Hon. Saater Tiseer for six months and Hon. Michael Audu for three months, to serve as a deterrent to others.

In a related development, the Assembly also dismissed Miss Dorcas Faeren Mbatiav from her role as a member of the Benue State House of Assembly Service Commission for gross misconduct and misuse of office.

According to a motion moved by Hon. Shimawua Terna of Kyan Constituency, Mbatiav was found guilty of leaking confidential information belonging to the Commission, violating Section 6(2) of the Benue State House of Assembly Service Commission (Establishment) Law, 2018.

Members also observed that she did not possess the required public service experience as stipulated in Section 5(2)(c) of the law.

Lawmakers argued that her continued presence on the Commission endangered its credibility and set a dangerous precedent.

Consequently, the House unanimously voted to remove her from office to protect the Commission’s integrity.
